State Project Coordinators from the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L‑PRES) Project — representing Adamawa and Enugu States — took part in the National Strategic Plan Review and Alignment Workshop for the control and eradication of Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR), held in Abuja on 16–17 July 2026.

Organized by AU-PANVAC in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, AU‑IBAR, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and WOAH, and supported by the European Union, the two‑day workshop convened senior government officials, veterinary services, development partners, research institutions, and livestock sector stakeholders from across the country. Participants reviewed Nigeria’s current PPR control strategy, aligned national plans with continental eradication goals, assessed implementation progress, and identified priority actions to strengthen surveillance, vaccination campaigns, diagnostics, and outbreak response.

L‑PRES’ active participation underscores the project’s commitment to improving animal health and safeguarding small ruminant productivity. By contributing state‑level insights from Adamawa and Enugu, the coordinators helped ensure that national strategies reflect frontline realities and practical needs — including gaps in cold‑chain logistics, community engagement for mass vaccination, and capacity building for veterinary officers. The workshop’s outcomes are expected to guide coordinated efforts to reduce PPR incidence, enhance livelihoods for pastoralists and smallholder farmers, and support Nigeria’s contribution to regional eradication targets.
