A 33-member task force has been officially inaugurated to lead the coordinated fight against Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR), a highly contagious and economically devastating viral disease that affects sheep and goats. Composed of veterinarians, animal health officers, epidemiologists, community extension workers, and representatives from relevant government agencies and farming associations, the task force will oversee surveillance, vaccination campaigns, rapid outbreak response, public awareness, and biosecurity measures across affected localities. Its mandate includes mapping high-risk zones, strengthening diagnostic and reporting systems, training frontline personnel, and engaging livestock owners with clear guidance on prevention and early detection. By uniting technical expertise and community outreach, the task force aims to contain existing outbreaks, prevent new infections, and ultimately eradicate PPR to protect animal livelihoods and secure local food and income sources.
