LIVESTOCK PRODUCTIVITY AND RESILIENCE SUPPORT PROJECT (L-PRES), ENUGU STATE, JOINS WITH ENUGU STATE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE TO CELEBRATE 2025 WORLD FOOD DAY
Theme: “Hand in Hand for Better Food and a Better Future”
In alignment with the global celebration of World Food Day 2025, the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES), Enugu State, Joins with the Enugu State Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Industrialization , held a landmark event to mark the occasion under the theme: “Hand in Hand for Better Food and a Better Future.”
The event brought together key stakeholders from the agricultural sector, including policymakers, farmers, development partners, youth groups, and the private sector, all unified by a common goal—to build a more resilient and inclusive food system in Enugu State.
The high point of the event was the address delivered on behalf of the Executive Governor of Enugu State by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Ebere Onyia, who emphasized the Governor’s unwavering commitment to transforming Enugu into Nigeria’s leading food-producing state.
In his speech, Prof. Onyia stated:
“His Excellency, the Governor of Enugu State, is not only aware of the enormous potential of agriculture in the state but is also fully committed to unlocking that potential. The vision is clear — Enugu State must become the Food State of Nigeria. And we are working tirelessly to make that a reality.”
He highlighted the administration’s support for agricultural development, including investment in rural infrastructure, extension services, innovation in livestock and crop production, and strategic collaborations with projects like L-PRES.
“This government is ready and eager to support every initiative that uplifts our farmers, enhances food production, and strengthens the agricultural value chain. Projects like L-PRES are key partners in our journey to food self-sufficiency and economic growth,” he added.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Patrick Ubru, who commended the farmers, fellow commissioners, development partners, and all stakeholders for their unwavering support and collaboration in advancing the state’s agricultural development.
“Our successes so far are a testament to what we can achieve when we work together,” Hon. Ubru stated. “With continuous support and investment, we are on track to position Enugu as a hub for agricultural productivity and innovation.”
The event featured Product exhibitions by local farmers and agripreneurs showcasing livestock and processed food products. The gathering served as both a celebration and a call to action for inclusive growth, food security, and agricultural resilience.
As Enugu State continues to position itself as a major agricultural force, initiatives like L-PRES and strong political will from the state leadership are driving the vision forward.
With the Governor’s support, strategic collaborations, and the resilience of Enugu’s farming communities, the dream of becoming the “Food State” of Nigeria is not just aspirational — it is achievable
