The Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) project in Enugu State has officially commenced a targeted sensitization and validation exercise for profiled livestock farmers—covering pig, cattle, and goat value chains—in preparation for a mass artificial insemination (AI).
The kickoff started with some clusters in Enugu South Local Government Area, with field teams moving through Obegu Clusters 1&2, Ama-Uzam Cluster and New Jerusalem(Top Land) Cluster, Emene and Akpoga Nike to engage registered farmers and align expectations ahead of the AI rollout.
L-PRES field officers are meeting profiled farmers to explain the objectives, benefits, and requirements of the mass AI program, including improved genetics, higher productivity, and better disease resilience.
Teams are verifying farmer identities, contact details, herd sizes, species (pigs, cattle, goats), and breeding status to ensure accurate targeting and scheduling for insemination services.
Farmers are being guided on pre-AI preparations such as animal health, record-keeping, de-worming, separation of selected females from the males, and cooperation with the AI technicians during the programme.
The exercise helps map out clusters and timelines so that AI teams can move efficiently across communities while minimizing stress on animals and disruption to farm routines.
