The Honorable Minister of Livestock Development, Mr. Idi Mukhtar Maiha, undertook a comprehensive official visit to Enugu State encompassing multiple strategic engagements.

The inspection tour, successfully concluded on Wednesday, 3rd December 2025, highlighted the Federal Government’s resolute dedication to rehabilitating underutilized assets and stimulating economic value chains within the livestock domain. The principal facilities evaluated were as follows:

1. Okpuje Pig and Progeny Centre
Commissioned in 1982, this 26.2-hectare establishment possesses a capacity for 3,000 pigs but has remained dormant for several decades. The Minister commended the host community’s stewardship of the infrastructure and announced definitive plans for its reactivation, alongside other moribund state investments, incorporating a state-of-the-art modular abattoir to process bacon for domestic consumption and international export. The Executive Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Area, Hon. Engr. Jude Chinedu Asogwa, expressed profound gratitude to the Tinubu Administration for prioritizing this rehabilitation, underscoring its synergy with the state’s agricultural-led economic transformation agenda.

2. Mary Agro Farms, Udi
An enterprise of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu, this site facilitated substantive consultations with livestock value chain stakeholders. The Minister reiterated the Federal Government’s steadfast resolve to maximize the livestock sector’s contributions, consonant with President Tinubu’s strategic imperative to elevate non-oil sectors as pivotal drivers of national GDP growth and economic diversification.

3. Adada Cattle Multiplication Centre and Adada Dam
Encompassing 847 hectares, this strategically positioned facility remains significantly underutilized despite its substantial potential. Following a meticulous evaluation, the Minister articulated that the Ministry has delineated precise interventions to restore full operational capacity, characterizing the locale as “a paradise yet to be discovered.” He advocated harnessing the Adada Dam for extensive pasture irrigation and emphasized the imperative of empirical, field-oriented assessments to cultivate private sector involvement and public-private partnerships. Barr. Chijioke Ezeugwu, Chairman of Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area, conveyed appreciation for the federal engagement and committed comprehensive local support to realize the centre’s transformative economic impact.
