As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen private sector involvement in the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project, the National Coordinating Office conducted an advocacy meeting and technical support mission with private veterinarians in Enugu State. The meeting aimed to enhance awareness, foster collaboration, and provide targeted technical assistance for effective project implementation. Private veterinary practitioners from various local government areas, representatives from the Enugu State Ministry of Agriculture, and members of the L-PRES State and National Technical Teams were in attendance.
Alhaji Sanusi Abubakar, The National Project Coordinator L-PRES in his remark emphasized the critical role of private veterinarians in ensuring the success and sustainability of livestock health interventions under the L-PRES project. He encouraged active participation, stressing that improved collaboration would lead to better disease control, increased productivity, and rural economic growth.
Dr. Ifeyinwa Nnajieze, the Enugu State Project Coordinator L-PRES in her welcome address, assured the participants of continued support from the State Coordinating Office and called for their commitment to the L-PRES objectives.
The Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-Industrialisation, Hon. Patrick Ubru, was ably represented by Dr. Ijeoma Kene Nnaji, who reiterated the State Government’s commitment to strengthening the veterinary service delivery system through meaningful public-private partnerships. Dr. Nnaji commended the efforts of the private veterinary sector and emphasized the importance of their role in driving livestock productivity, animal health, and overall resilience of the sector in the state.

The advocacy meeting and technical support mission successfully laid the groundwork for stronger public-private partnerships in animal health service delivery in Enugu State. The active participation of the National Project Coordinator and the State Coordinator added value and momentum to the discussions. Going forward, continuous engagement and follow-up will be vital to sustaining the gains of this mission.
