The National Coordinating Office (NCO) of the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project undertook its quarterly support mission to two implementing states—Enugu and Ebonyi. The mission was aimed at reviewing implementation progress, providing technical assistance, and strengthening stakeholder collaboration across project activities. Objectives of the mission is to monitor the implementation status of L-PRES activities in Enugu and Ebonyi States, engage with state project teams and stakeholders on key challenges and opportunities, visit selected project sites for physical verification and assessment, promote synergy between federal and state project delivery teams.
Dr. Wasiu Adeoye, the National Technical Operation Manager L-PRES, addressed key issues and provided valuable insights during the visit. He emphasized the critical importance of accuracy in reporting and profiling, stressing that reliable data is fundamental to effective program implementation and evaluation. He encouraged state teams to maintain high standards in documentation and data management.
Furthermore, he commended the states for the commendable work done so far, acknowledging their dedication, coordination, and efforts in achieving set targets. He urged them to sustain the momentum and continue striving for excellence in all aspects of the program.
The team visited Agu Odoo Obinagu in Udi Local Government Area and Obiagu community, both in Enugu State. These visits were focused on Interacting with livestock farmers to assess community-level participation, evaluating current animal health and husbandry practices and identifying potential needs for veterinary support, infrastructure, and training.
The communities expressed enthusiasm for L-PRES interventions and highlighted the need for continuous veterinary outreach, access to quality feed, and structured extension services.
The NCO delegation visited the Modern Veterinary Hospital recently constructed in Akwuke, Enugu State. This facility is intended to serve as a center of excellence in veterinary healthcare delivery under the L-PRES framework. The hospital is well-structured and equipped with essential facilities to provide a range of veterinary services.
Meetings were held with the Enugu and Ebonyi State Project Coordinators, state technical teams, The National Project Coordinator, Alhaji Sanusi Abubakar, reiterated the NCO’s commitment to continuous support and called for timely reporting and collaboration at all levels.
The quarterly support mission to Enugu and Ebonyi States marked a significant step in reinforcing project implementation and stakeholder coordination. The visits to Agu Odoo Obinagu, Obeagu, and the Modern Veterinary Hospital in Akwuke provided firsthand insights into the progress and potential impact of L-PRES interventions.
