In a significant boost to the livestock sector in the state, the Enugu State Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Industrialization has received a generous donation of thousands of vaccine doses aimed at combating major trans-boundary animal diseases. The consignment, provided by the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (LPRES), was formally handed over to Commissioner Dr. Patrick Ubru by Dr. Ifeyinwa Elizabeth Nnajieze, the Enugu State LPRES Project Coordinator. This timely intervention comes at a critical time for farmers and herders, helping to safeguard animal health, prevent outbreaks, and support economic resilience in rural communities.

The vaccines which target some of the most devastating diseases affecting livestock in Nigeria includes 10, 000 doses of Contagious Bovine Pleuro-Pneumonia (CBPP) Vaccine, 40,000 doses of Newcastle Disease Vaccine and 3,000 doses of Foot and Mouth Disease(FMD) Vaccine. These vaccines will enable rapid immunization campaigns across Enugu’s livestock populations, reducing mortality rates, curbing disease spread, and enhancing productivity in the agro-industrial value chain.

Commissioner Dr. Patrick Ubru expressed profound gratitude during the handover, hailing the initiative as a game-changer for the state’s agricultural agenda. He extended his deepest appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for championing the establishment of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, which has paved the way for such targeted support. Dr. Ubru also commended National LPRES Project Coordinator Dr. Abubakar Sanusi for his unwavering commitment to Enugu’s progress and praised Governor Dr. Peter Mbah for providing 100% backing to livestock initiatives. “This donation aligns perfectly with our vision for a resilient and thriving agro-sector,”

The LPRES project, a federal initiative, continues to play a pivotal role in Nigeria’s livestock transformation, fostering resilience against climate challenges, disease threats, and market disruptions. Enugu’s receipt of these vaccines underscores the state’s proactive stance in community development and agricultural empowerment.
