The “Federal Livestock Centre” in Enugu was a federal government project located in Okpuje, Nsukka, originally set up for pig farming. Established in the early 1980s under the Shagari administration, its goal was large-scale pig production. However, the center has been inactive and neglected for many years. Currently, there are renewed efforts to restore this project.

Meanwhile, a new “Integrated Livestock Development Centre” is being developed at Ubahu under the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project. This state-led initiative, supported by the World Bank, focuses on improving livestock productivity and resilience in Enugu State. It includes farmer training, farmer support services, and the creation of new facilities such as the development center and a veterinary hospital.
